Marble Floor Restoration in Horsham, West Sussex

Restoring a Dull, Scratched Marble Floor to a High-Gloss Finish

Marble floors are a premium feature in many homes across Sussex, but over time they can lose their natural shine due to wear, incorrect cleaning methods and daily foot traffic.

We were recently contacted by a homeowner in Horsham, West Sussex looking for professional marble floor restoration after their hallway floor had become dull, scratched and uneven in appearance.

The Problem

The marble floor had been installed over 12 years ago and had gradually deteriorated.

The homeowner reported several common issues we frequently see with marble floors across Sussex:

  • visible scratches across the surface

  • dull, cloudy patches where the finish had worn away

  • loss of reflection and shine

  • uneven appearance in high-traffic areas

The floor had also been cleaned using off-the-shelf products, which had contributed to the dull finish.

At this stage, the homeowner was considering replacing the floor entirely.

Our Assessment

After inspecting the floor, we confirmed that the marble was structurally sound and could be fully restored using professional marble floor polishing and restoration techniques.

We explained that replacement was not necessary, and that restoration would:

  • remove surface damage

  • restore the natural shine

  • significantly improve the overall appearance

  • cost far less than installing a new floor

The Restoration Process

To restore the floor, we carried out a full marble floor restoration process using specialist equipment.

Deep Cleaning

We began with a thorough deep clean to remove dirt, grease and any residues from previous cleaning products. This step ensures the restoration process works directly on the stone surface.

Grinding & Honing

We then used professional diamond abrasives to remove scratches, etching and surface damage.

Multiple passes were carried out to refine the marble and create a smooth, even surface across the entire floor.

Polishing

Once the surface was fully refined, we polished the marble to restore its natural shine.

This stage enhanced the colour and clarity of the stone, bringing back the reflective finish that had been lost over time.

Sealing

Finally, we applied a high-quality impregnating sealer to protect the marble from staining and future wear.

This also makes the floor easier to clean and maintain.

The Result

The transformation was significant.

After restoration:

  • scratches and dull patches were completely removed

  • the surface was smooth and even

  • the marble regained its natural shine and reflection

  • the overall space looked brighter and more refined

The homeowner was extremely pleased with the result and commented that the floor looked “as good as new”.

Most importantly, they avoided the cost and disruption of replacing the floor.
